Amish style Sunshine and Shadow Quilts

You can do so much with the simple one-patch. I like the action that this color arrangement creates. The actual colors are nicer than they look on my screen, especially the hot pink.

The quilt below has a more classic layout with the squares creating a big diamond shape, and the large blocks in the corners. This quilt is available in my Etsy shop.

Karen Griska's Quilt Studio

This is my quilt studio. There is a porch off to the right. The door is to the right of the log cabin quilt. The view from the window is all woods.

The design wall is where the yellow quilt is hanging. The Stairstep quilt is hanging in the spot where I photograph finished quilts. The ironing board is in the foreground. The cutting table is beyond the sewing machine.

Here is the husband's sofa/my reading spot.

The fabric storage drawers are by Elfa from The Container Store. They are loaded and heavy, but they are holding up great. I got the yarn storage grid at Target. It's open to the back, but adequate for yarn.

My room was never this organized again since the day these photos were taken. There's always lots of cutting, sewing, basting, etc. going on. It's great to have room to play!

Ferris Wheel Fan Quilt and Pattern!

Hot off the sewing machine: the Ferris Wheel quilt! There's a pattern for it too. This is a fun way to make fan blocks. No paper-piecing, no fabric foundations. You make them "by eye."

I like the spinning wheel effect you get with striped fabrics (below).

Here's another variation. The improv aspect shows up more in the example below.

Newest Pattern in the Modern Scrap Series: Camelot

A great quilt for your favorite knight or princess. See the Camelot pattern here. The triangles are made by eye. Charming look and fun to make. The photo above was taken at Topsmead State Park in Litchfield, CT, not far from my house. It was a beautiful day.

The princesses have skirts, below. I like the brown and white hat in the middle. Yes, I'm already working on the next quilt in the series.

How to Tie a Quilt

Just imagine how many quilt tops you could finish if you tied your quilts. Batting is better today than it used to be. It doesn't shift or bunch up. So, tying a quilt is something to consider. It can add to the charm of your quilt. Take a look here. See all my patterns here.

String Quilt Pattern - Sunshine

This cheerful Sunshine quilt pattern has a center medallion and a saw-tooth stripe across the top and bottom. See the pdf immediate download pattern here. See all my quilt patterns here.

The little red and yellow triangles are made "by eye," so they go fast, and they look charming.

If you have a gallon size plastic storage bag of selvages, you'll have enough to make this quilt.

Raw Edge Tile Quilt Pattern

This quilt was so much fun to make! It's the perfect quilt for fabric collectors and "fussy-cutters." Get together with your quilting buddies and trade pieces of fabric to increase the variety in your quilt. This pattern is available for immediate download  here. See all my patterns here.

Most of the fabrics are squares and triangles, but I had to make an exception for the cute sock monkey above, and the fancy bird below.

I also like how the green foliage fabric on the right blends with the white background. This quilt is definitely an easy project. Good for kids too.

Little Flags - A Modern Quilt Pattern

This light and airy, modern quilt was made for a customer who is decorating her oceanfront home.
See this pattern here. See all my patterns here.

When you see how easy it is to make these triangles, you'll be adding saw-tooth borders to all your quilts.

This quilt was beautifully machine quilted by Maika Christensen of Utah.

The Stacks Quilt Pattern, Orange Version

This orange version of The Stacks quilt was made for a customer in San Francisco, CA.
My customer wanted a modern quilt, fading from dark orange in the center to bright white along both sides.
I like the interesting fabrics in this quilt, especially the 5 big black dots.
See all my quilt patterns here.
