You can do so much with the simple one-patch. I like the action that this color arrangement creates. The actual colors are nicer than they look on my screen, especially the hot pink.

The quilt below has a more classic layout with the squares creating a big diamond shape, and the large blocks in the corners. This quilt is available in my Etsy shop.

This is one of my all-time favorite quilts. And now I've finished the pattern for it. This quilt is a lot easier than it looks. Fortunately! Can you imagine a busier quilt than this? Eleven pages, instant download, lots of clear hot-to photos. Lots of fun to make. Good winter blizzard project.

If you're a new quilter, take a look at this fun and easy way to make a string quilt. Make your block bigger than your ruler, then trim. Easy, right? Use any size ruler you like. I used a 6" square in this photo. These strips are about 1 1/2" wide but you can vary the widths.

Etsy About Page:

Quiltmaking has been my passion since I was 13 years old. Following a career as an investment portfolio manager and raising two sons, I now enjoy creating quilts full time. I'm inspired by antique quilts, especially ones that contain improvisational elements in their design or construction. I also enjoy the challenge of upcycling, and wrote the book "Quilts from the Selvage Edge" on that topic. (Published by the American Quilter's Society, 2008.) I'm a member of the Empire Quilter's Guild in New York City, and the Modern Connecticut Quilter's Guild.

My quilts have appeared in numerous books, magazines, museum exhibits and quilt shows. See my blogs for details.
When I'm not in the quilt studio, I like spending time with my husband. We enjoy hiking in New England, traveling, photography, eating pizza, and visiting with our two grown sons.

I love the creative process. My head is filled with quilts that I want to make, and making a quilt generates even more. I've made hundreds of quilts and have never used a pattern. I want to be surprised when I view the finished quilt.

Vintage quilts are a rich source of inspiration for me. I design as I go, working quickly and intuitively. I like to improvise. I often add surprises to my quilts, for example hiding a little ice skate image for the viewer to discover. Each quilt is unique; I never make the same one twice.

I made my first quilt when I was 13 years old, using fabric scraps from making clothing. Thanks to my mom I enjoy sewing, knitting, crochet, and embroidery, but quilting is my favorite.

My quilt studio is filled with fabrics, tools, embellishments, a design wall, music and books. There are windows and a big porch overlooking the woods. And a sofa for visitors.

I also enjoy encouraging other quilters. My patterns offer an easy, no-stress approach to quilting that will delight new and experienced quilters alike. The actual colors are much nicer than they look on my computer screen, but you get the general idea. A little more tweaking happened after this photo was taken.

Hot off the sewing machine: the Ferris Wheel quilt! There's a pattern for it too. This is a fun way to make fan blocks. No paper-piecing, no fabric foundations. You make them "by eye."

I like the spinning wheel effect you get with striped fabrics (below).

Here's another variation. The improv aspect shows up more in the example below.
