New Quilt Pattern: Checkmate and a Little Trick!

The little squares in this quilt remind me of castle walls or the rooks in a chess game. And this quilt is a real winner, hence the name: Checkmate. It's just a center medallion with three solid borders and three "little squares" borders.

Take a look at the corners of the pieced borders: they're rather perfect! Haha. This isn't due to genius or great sewing skills. Just a "liberated quilting" trick: increase the seam allowances here and there between the squares until you get the perfect length. See pattern for details and photos.

See the pattern here: Checkmate Quilt Pattern

The colors are more accurate in these last two pics. The fabrics used are: Kona Charcoal, Kona Stone, and Kona Cream. I'm enjoying a break from the scrappy look for a while. Modern vibes here. :)

Yellowstone Quilt Pattern

This quilt would be right at home in the lobby of Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone National Park. It's loaded with interesting fabrics to explore while you're sitting by the fireplace.

No fussy measuring is necessary to make this quilt. Take a look at the pattern here: Yellowstone Quilt.

New: Fandango Quilt Pattern!

This is one of my all-time favorite quilts. And now I've finished the pattern for it. This quilt is a lot easier than it looks. Fortunately! Can you imagine a busier quilt than this? Eleven pages, instant download, lots of clear hot-to photos. Lots of fun to make. Good winter blizzard project.

Houndstooth Quilt and Pattern

You'll be amazed at how quickly this quilt goes together! See the pattern.

This quilt has both retro and modern style, so I was happy to find this tie-breaker art deco fabric for the backing.

Ferris Wheel Fan Quilt and Pattern!

Hot off the sewing machine: the Ferris Wheel quilt! There's a pattern for it too. This is a fun way to make fan blocks. No paper-piecing, no fabric foundations. You make them "by eye."

I like the spinning wheel effect you get with striped fabrics (below).

Here's another variation. The improv aspect shows up more in the example below.

How to Tie a Quilt

Just imagine how many quilt tops you could finish if you tied your quilts. Batting is better today than it used to be. It doesn't shift or bunch up. So, tying a quilt is something to consider. It can add to the charm of your quilt. Take a look here. See all my patterns here

This cheerful Sunshine quilt pattern has a center medallion and a saw-tooth stripe across the top and bottom. See the pdf immediate download pattern here. See all my quilt patterns here

The little red and yellow triangles are made "by eye," so they go fast, and they look charming.

The Stacks Quilt Pattern, Orange Version

This orange version of The Stacks quilt was made for a customer in San Francisco, CA.
My customer wanted a modern quilt, fading from dark orange in the center to bright white along both sides.
I like the interesting fabrics in this quilt, especially the 5 big black dots.

Modern Quilt Pattern: Fine Lines

The easy pattern for "Fine Lines" is available for immediate download here

This quilt is fun to make because each square is a new project with endless design possibilities. I especially like the border. It looks like a blanket stitch. It's easy to make and I think it looks very compatible with the rest of the quilt.
